Position description

Northbrook Evangelical Covenant Church in Northbrook, IL, is looking for a part time Director of Youth and Children’s Ministries. The church is looking for someone to direct the ministries for jr. high and high school students, oversee curriculum adaptation and volunteer scheduling for Children’s Ministry in partnership with the Children’s Ministry coordinators, and build relationships with students and families. The position also allows for expanded ministry opportunities also available depending on the gifts and capacity of the individual. Field Education supervision is available if the individual is training for future ministry.

A.QUALIFICATIONS:

1. The Director of Youth and Children’s Ministries shall demonstrate a vital, personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and be in agreement with the principles and beliefs of NECC and its denomination, The Evangelical Covenant Church.

2. The DYCM shall exhibit qualities of spiritual leadership with the ability to lead the youth program of the church.

3. The DYCM shall preferably have experience, education, and expertise in youth and/or children’s ministries.

B. RESPONSIBILITIES:

The DYCM is responsible for overseeing and directing the youth and children’s ministries, leading the youth and children’s volunteers in the formation of the children of the church through 12th grade. Responsibilities include:

1. Planning activities and formation for youth and children’s ministries in collaboration with children’s ministry coordinators, helping to ensure a continual formational journey for all children and youth of the church.

2. Developing relationships with the youth and children of the church and their families and friends by partnering with them, attending school activities, and meeting with them informally.

3. Communicating regularly with the parents and students through channels such as bulletins, newsletter, email, or through phone calls/texts as appropriate.

4. Recruiting and nurturing relationships with volunteers. Coordinating the schedule of Kids Church teachers and nursery volunteers, meeting with them as needed and providing necessary materials for lessons and activities.

5. Promoting Central Conference and Covenant camps and events and attending and fundraising for them as appropriate.

6. Meeting with the Lead Pastor regularly for mentoring or field education supervision, planning, support, and accountability.

7. Being present at NECC’s Sunday services apart from designated teaching weeks, and contributing to the life and well-being of the church.

C. RELATIONSHIP TO THE CHURCH:

The DYCM shall be responsible to the Lead Pastor and through the Lead Pastor to the leadership of the church. The church shall provide appropriate resources, financially and personally, and support for an effective youth ministry.
