Associate Pastor - Salt Lake City, UT

Listed: 05-09-2022

Employer: Mount Olympus Presbyterian Church - 3280 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84124-2160 | (801) 277-2674 | http://www.mountolympuschurch.com/home

Location: Salt Lake City, UT

Type: Part-time

Download: Job Description - Associate Pastor

Mount Olympus Presbyterian Church (MOPC) is located in a residential area of Salt Lake County by the east Interstate 215 beltway, near the beautiful foothills of the Wasatch Mountain range.

MOPC is a vibrant fellowship with a stated goal of becoming more passionate followers of Jesus Christ. Our thriving congregation is well-balanced in age distribution across all generations. We are a diverse community of believers. We welcome breadth in thoughts and views, and although we hold varying opinions, we are identified by our unity in Christ. Our top priority is creating an environment in which all people can become passionate followers of Christ! There are two Sunday worship services: 8:30 AM traditional service and 11 AM contemporary. We offer Facebook Live for remote worship at each service. MOPC has had excellent stability in their membership and staff including the tenure of the previous two pastors serving for 26 years and 14 years. Our present Senior Pastor Chris Pritchett has served in that role for two years.

MOPC has a strong history of being a mission-oriented church. The church hosts Mount Olympus Christian Child Care Center for children up through kindergarten along with an after school program. MOPC places a high priority on developing meaningful long-term relationships with the ministries that we support. Our global missions are focused on financial support to indigenous Christian ministries in Indonesia, Kenya, Myanmar, Tanzania and Tunisia, as well as sponsorship of frequent youth and adult mission trips to Nakuru, Kenya and Nassa Theological College in Tanzania. Our local missions include on-going financial and volunteer support for low-income and homeless persons, refugees, persons leaving polygamy, state-wide support for campus students through Intervarsity campus ministry, and outreach to international students at the University of Utah. Recently, our church mounted efforts to assist incoming Afghan refugees arriving in Utah.

Children’s and youth ministries are exceptionally strong at MOPC. The focus for children’s ministry is to provide the foundation of Christian education for families. Sunday school classes are run during the school year with a strong emphasis on Biblically based teaching. During the Sunday school hour, MOPC offers an opportunity for parents to gather in a class called Parents Café which centers on raising children in the Christian faith. Youth ministry is robust with over 50 youth participating in weekly meetings and activities. In addition to growing the faith journeys of our youth, our program is known throughout the valley and continuously draws students from outside the congregation to discover and explore their personal beliefs. One indicator of this program’s effectiveness is that 6 young adults have gone on to seminary training in the past 15 years.

MOPC has a strong culture of continuous learning. This is evident by the participation in adult education classes in traditional and non-traditional settings. Education classes for adults are held during the Sunday school hour and during the week. Men’s and women’s ministries exist with weekly Bible studies, a Presbyterian Women’s group, and book clubs. The women’s ministry engages in annual fellowship retreats and a fundraising bazaar.

The Board of Deacons provide an effective ministry of caring for congregational members and more intensive care is provided by our Stephen Ministry program.

MOPC hosts many fellowship activities including hiking, mountain/road biking, and golfing, as well as fielding teams in softball and basketball leagues with other local churches. Our seniors meet monthly for camaraderie and social time, which includes lunch and educational programs.

1. How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

The Associate Pastor will collaborate with our Senior Pastor to motivate and lead MOPC as we seek to grow into the church God wants us to be, challenging us to grow through Bible-based teaching, and guiding us to seek God's direction. The Associate Pastor will partner with our Senior Pastor, elders, staff, and ministry leaders to implement our vision and equip MOPC in our commitment to being Christ-centered and showing the love of God to those around us. The Associate Pastor will work to integrate people into the life of the church through small groups and fellowship opportunities. The Associate Pastor will act as a steward of MOPC’s programs nurturing the faith of all ages and provide pastoral care and compassion to those in need in the church and community around us. In the contemporary religious milieu of Salt Lake City, the person will have occasion to interact with people of different religious backgrounds and theological viewpoints. Opportunities will present for building bridges while maintaining faith in Jesus Christ. In partnership with our Senior Pastor, the Associate Pastor will work toward spiritual transformation, preaching the Gospel, teaching scripture, and modeling key characteristics of Jesus (humility, forgiveness, encouragement, truth-telling, prayerfulness, and listening to the Holy Spirit), inspiring others by example to live as disciples of Christ.

2. Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.

We desire an Associate Pastor who has a rich and deep personal relationship with Christ and has a heart to have a life shaped by God. This is closely tied to the Associate Pastor’s study of God’s word as the guide to salvation and the ability to convey this knowledge clearly and effectively through biblical preaching and teaching. This would include regular prayer and a heart for listening and accepting God’s guidance.

MOPC is involved in a variety of ministries. The Associate Pastor position will require someone engaging and compassionate, with the ability to help identify individuals’ strengths and actively encourage service within the congregation. They will need organization and communication skills to assist in creating small group fellowship opportunities for members and friends of MOPC, and to help new and aspiring members to be welcomed and included as part of the congregation. The Associate Pastor will require the heart of a servant, willing to assist the Pastor in various pastoral responsibilities.

Associate Pastor for Youth - Dunwoody, GA

Listed: 05-02-2022

Employer: Saint Luke’s Presbyterian Church - 1978 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338 | (770) 393-1424 | www.slpres.org

Location: Dunwoody, GA

Type: Full-time

Download: Job Description - Associate Pastor for Youth

1. How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?

SLPC actively seeks to engage our youth through a variety of worship, fellowship, and outreach programs. Embraced by the congregation, youth grow spiritually and personally with numerous unique opportunities to lead and serve. In addition to welcoming and connecting with youth, this position encompasses planning the youth year, recruiting volunteers needed to carry it out, and leading in the plan’s execution.

The Associate Pastor will enable the church to connect with an optimal number of youth on a regular basis. SLPC youth eagerly participate in annual mission trips and retreats focused on outreach and fellowship. SLPC seeks to encourage and build consistent participation in year-round activities (e.g., Sunday School, youth group meetings, monthly breakfast, and weeknight fellowship. New ideas are encouraged as well.)

The associate pastor serves to inform and motivate our youth, their parents, and adult volunteers, whether regular or intermittent. Volunteers are key in a successful youth program and provide opportunities for spiritual growth and intergenerational fellowship among members.

SLPC is in an exciting time of “reconstructing” our youth ministry program with the outside assistance of Ministry Architects. This agency will be present to consult with the associate pastor in guiding the growth of the youth program over the next several months.

2. Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and/or organization.

SLPC is seeking an Associate Pastor who will meet the youth where they are as well as bring new ideas while honoring traditional programming. SLPC youth are passionate about their program and would benefit from a leader who shares in that passion and participates in their activities with an energetic spirit. An ability to balance that active fun with serious topics, deeper faith discussions, and service to others is a key attribute of the right new youth leader for SLPC.

An adaptable leader will help guide the youth out of this transitional time and into more meaningful relationships with each other, their church family, and with God. With so many unique personalities across the youth group, a terrific leader will create a space for everyone to share their insight and feelings.

An engaged leader of youth will be actively involved in their lives, recognizing that church is not the entirety of their interest and talent. Watching youth play instruments or sports, checking in after a big test, and remembering things about their lives will deepen the youth’s connection with their leader and their church.

In addition, an effective leader of youth will communicate in ways that reach the target audience. Social media and text communications are preferred over email. Social media proficiency is essential for engagement.

3. For what specific tasks, assignments, and programs areas will this person have responsibility?

The Associate Pastor for Youth, working in collaboration with the Youth Council, the MA Renovation Team (for 6-9 months), and the Faith Formation (formerly known as Christian Education) Committee, will serve as Director of the SLPC’s Youth Program coordinating activities for learning, group life, and service including but not limited to:

• Serve as supervisor of SLPC’s Seminary Intern

• Offer supplemental pastoral support to the SLPC’s Children’s Program including summer Vacation Bible School, and the Saint Luke’s Little Saints preschool

Pastor - Montana

Listed: 04-20-2022

Employer: The Havre and Chinook Presbyterian Churches - Montana | (406) 357-8056

Location: Montana

The congregations of the Havre and Chinook Presbyterian Churches, in north central Montana, find a seminary trained leader for our vacated pulpits. Our two Presbyterian congregations located 20 miles apart are working with a yoked Presbyterian/Methodist congregation (for 50 years) in another community (Harlem) and the United Methodist and American Lutheran churches in Chinook to create a ‘new parish model.’

This new model will allow us to build and share a leadership team of seminary trained leaders and certified laypersons. We are currently seeking a seminary trained pastor to lead or work with other seminary trained/certified lay individuals as this new ‘parish’ develops. There is a possibility to have housing included as well as additional compensation for ‘time in position’ as part of the compensation package. The position will require flexibility, creativity and organizing skills as we move forward.

This leadership position might also appeal to a candidate who wishes to move away from the toils of urban living. We make no secret our area is rural, yet within our 40-mile radius area there is a state university and a regional hospital in Havre and all three communities have stand-alone medical clinics and school systems that enjoy public support.

A candidate would find our area is blessed with natural beauty and as well as a cost of living significantly lower than most urban areas. The university, the regional hospital, local school systems and the Fort Belknap Reservation at nearby Harlem provide professional employment opportunities for spouses or other family members. Up to date internet capabilities make working remotely also a possibility.

For information about our area, details about the congregations and the new ‘parish model,’ please contact Steve Edwards:

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

We celebrate all persons regardless of where they may be on their spiritual journey. We value persons of all faith traditions, those with no faith tradition, as well as those who are questioning and exploring. Youth ministry director and Children’s ministry director - Worcester, MA

Listed: 03-31-2022

Employer: Christian Gospel Church in Worcester - 43 Belmont Street, Worcester, MA 01605 | (508) 393-7245 | www.worcestercgc.org

Location: Worcester, MA

Download: Job Description - Youth and Children director

About Worcester and CGCW

CGCW is located about 40 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts. Worcester is the second largest city in Massachusetts and has a long history, developed culture, and outstanding people. There are seven universities in the city, as well as medical schools, research institutes, biopharmaceutical research centers, and computer technology companies within the city and surrounding area. These facilities attract many Chinese people to work and settle here and attract many international students and visiting scholars to study and research here. God has prepared a vast harvest field for us in this area.

As early as the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, many Chinese students came to Worcester to study. Former Tsinghua University President Mei Yiqi and the famous poet Xu Zhimo studied here. Today, there are more than 4,000 Chinese people in Worcester County, and more than a few hundred children in the Chinese schools learning to speak Chinese. The youth ministry and children's ministry are crucial to attract and retain Chinese families, as well as the key to passing on the faith. CGCW currently has more than 100 adult members, more than 20 teenagers, and more than 40 children who regularly attend the church.

Our Ministry to Youth and Children

The church leadership team is united in the understanding that a thriving youth and children's ministry is critical to the future of the church. In the past 20+ years, we have encountered over a thousand students, over 300 were baptized in the Lord, and we established campus groups and several fellowships. We worked with other Chinese churches to start the regional New England Winter Student camp (NEWS camp). Additionally, the youth and children are active in the church with outreach programs, conferences, hosting VBS, AWANA, and weekly fellowship meetings.

Therefore, we have decided to continue vigorously developing our youth and children's ministry, not only to retain our next generation to pass on our faith to them, but also to attract more young people to come to us and even to build a future English worship ministry for everyone, children, youth, and adults. Although our church is part of the Lord’s ministry to a growing community of Chinese-speaking people in the Worcester area, in many cases their children were born here in the United States and are primarily English-speaking. To minister to this younger generation, we are called to provide English ministries for the youth and children in addition to our services in Mandarin Chinese.

Announcement

The Christian Gospel Church in Worcester, Massachusetts, announces openings for a youth ministry director and a children’s ministry director. These positions require the candidates to be fluent, preferably native, English speakers. Knowledge of Mandarin Chinese is useful, but not at all required. These positions are available immediately.

The Youth Ministry Director

The youth ministry director is responsible for the weekly preaching in the English worship service for teens and adults, arrangement and teaching of Sunday School classes for the youth, organization of the youth fellowship meetings and other youth activities, pastoral care of the youth, and coordination of the youth ministry within the oversight of the board of elders. Preferably, the youth ministry director candidate will be ordained or eligible for ordination and available for full-time work, but candidates also will be considered if they intend to pursue training in the ministry and are willing to fill the position at least part-time while completing their studies. Qualifications include: theologically equipped, clearly called, having youth ministry experience.

The Children’s Ministry Director

The children’s ministry director is responsible for organization and teaching of the younger children in the church ranging from preschooler to Grade 6. The director shall oversee and formulate the Friday AWANA program and Sunday School program with the goal of preparing children to have a smooth transition to the youth program. The director shall coordinate the children’s ministry under the oversight of the board of elders. The children’s ministry director may be related to the youth ministry director, such as the husband and wife, and the position may be full-time or part-time, depending on the availability of the candidate. Qualifications include: theologically equipped/trained, clearly called, having children ministry experience.

For more information

Please contact Elder Songheng Li, by email at songhengli68@gmail.com or by phone at (774) 641-0601, for more information about these positions and our ministry.

Saint Clair Shores boasts great school districts, affordable housing, and great community life with city parks and events. They have great restaurants on what is known as the “nautical mile” and access to lakefront living with their city parks. It’s a nice bedroom community near Detroit with all of the professional sports teams, theatre, and concert venues. Saint Clair Shores itself still boasts an old-time feel - with lots of smaller local businesses and stores. They are close to the big box stores (10 minutes away in the town next door) but have a much smaller town feel.
