Solo Pastor - Starkville, MS

Location: Starkville, MS
Type: Full-time

Brief Church Mission Statement:
Acceptance. Inquiry. Service
The Mission of Trinity Presbyterian Church is to create a safe environment for everyone to learn, explore, and seek God. Jesus is among us when we make room for all persons with their questions, doubts, beliefs, ideas, and passions. “What you do for the least of these in my name, you do for me.” We are seeking to grow in faith, understanding, service and love.
What is the congregation’s or organization’s vision for ministry? Additionally describe how this vision is lived out.
As a Matthew 25 and More Light congregation, Trinity is called to offer an open, affirming worship alternative within a small community. Trinity seeks always to provide a warm, lively place of spiritual rejuvenation for its worshipers, whether longtime members or first-time visitors. Trinity in many ways serves a small niche congregation, particularly emphasizing love, and inclusion, but it also serves a membership who desire all to feel welcomed and who wish to grow in number.
Surrounded by serene greenery within a university town, Trinity’s congregation feels God’s presence in the beauty of the natural world and the marvels of science. We seek to model stewardship of the environment and vulnerable populations to our young people joyfully, as a part of a holistic Christian experience, demonstrating through service that church is not merely a weekly worship hour. We wish to engage in multi-generational, cross-cultural dialogues and missions, serving God as agents of change in our local community and beyond.
We seek opportunities to worship God both as a body and individually, respecting one another’s spiritual journeys. Trinity offers both traditional and unconventional worship experiences to help all members find meaningful moments that resonate.
Finally, Trinitarians celebrate connection and fellowship, often coming together with music and food. Frequent gatherings are a vital part of Trinity’s mission, as we support our church family throughout all phases of life.
How do you feel called to reach out to address the emerging needs of your community or constituency?
Trinitarians value compassion and open-mindedness—not merely tolerating but embracing and affirming diverse perspectives—and our church is a source of community activism. Trinity’s long history of service counteracts pervasive problems like poverty, illiteracy, hunger, and lack of access to safe water. Trinity believes in action, physically giving our time, talents, and ourselves to worthy causes municipally, regionally, nationally, or globally. Our congregation is active in causes such as helping provide meals for the needy, organizing semiannual blood drives, supporting Habitat for Humanity, and reaching out to neighbors impacted by ICE raids. Our calling to protect natural resources ranges from installing water-treatment facilities in developing countries to sponsoring a local chapter of the Boy Scouts. Our facility is utilized by the community as a local voting precinct and hosts regular bridge, yoga, book club, and lunch/breakfast club gatherings.
We want to be active allies in stamping out intolerance in all its forms and seek a pastor to lead us boldly and energetically toward a more inclusive future that embraces all regardless of race, economic status, gender identification, sexual orientation, or disability. We wish to wrestle with difficult topics involving social injustice and inequity, as well as encourage our local leaders to craft solutions. Trinity espouses a growth mindset over a fixed one, and we seek to model a living, inclusive, service-based faith.
How will this position help you to reach your vision and mission goals?
The Sacraments teach us to give thanks for God’s blessings, to commit to living by Christ’s example even amidst the challenges of modern times, to serve our Lord by serving our neighbors, and to welcome all to the table, reconciling personal differences in recognition that we are all children of God.
Trinity seeks a pastor who primarily serves in a support role for the congregation in the above capacities, with some executive functions. By setting an example of living gratefully and joyfully, the pastor would inspire and rejuvenate the congregation. By preaching timely sermons relevant to modern, real-world families and issues, the pastor would serve as a beacon of wisdom and empathy in these harried times. By engaging in church outreach and community activism, the pastor would become a catalyst, enabler, and bridge-builder for positive change. By serving as Trinity’s recognizable face within the community, our pastor would boost our local profile and help attract new members who are hungry for the type of open, accepting, informal worship opportunities we provide. At Trinity, we believe that many young families and individuals in our community are looking for a church exactly like ours.
Provide a description of the characteristics needed by the person who is open to being called to this congregation and or organization.
Our congregation feels God’s call toward a pastor who exudes enthusiasm, empathy, and openness. Our pastor will join our congregation in warmly celebrating life’s joyous moments and will guide and counsel us through life’s inevitable pitfalls and sorrows. Our pastor will feel a sense of ease with all our worshipers, from the very young to the elderly—including our valued members who identify as LGBTQ+ or who have disabilities.
Our pastor will help us meet young families and new members where they currently are: in the “real world,” struggling to balance the competing demands of growing children, busy careers, aging parents, and self-care. We will recognize our pastor through dynamic, relatable sermons underscoring contemporary issues. Our pastor will embrace modern technology to help expand our church’s social media footprint and local visibility.
God is calling our pastor to be an activist, searching out opportunities for our congregation to challenge injustice or hate (including if we find it within ourselves) and to shape productive solutions, such as through community and church partnerships.
Last but not least, our pastor will eschew rigidity and pretention for flexibility and creativity. Our pastor will push us as a congregation to find new ways to celebrate God and engage with our neighbors, both within and outside our church walls. In turn, our pastor will be receptive to non-traditional opportunities for growth and fellowship.

Who we Are
The Direct Action and Research Training Center (DART) is one of the largest faith-based community organizing networks in the country. Our 27 affiliated organizations span 9 states. By harnessing the power of organized people, these organizations hold political and economic systems accountable for acting fairly—pushing them to become more equitable and just. Since 1982 we have fought for and won policy changes that have addressed systemic failures which disproportionately harm low-income communities as well as communities of color. Victories include:
Hundreds of millions of dollars invested in affordable housing
Implementation of fair discipline policies in hundreds of schools, breaking the school-to-prison pipeline
Nearly $950 million invested in public transportation
Criminal justice reforms resulting in 5,000 fewer arrests of children in Florida each year
Why Choose the DART Network
DART is a network of doers. We understand that the road to a society free of racism and economic injustice is a long one that requires dedication and persistence. To create lasting change, we must do work that extends beyond charity and advocacy—while important, these efforts generally only serve as temporary solutions to permanent, systemic problems. In a world where the interests of the wealthy are prioritized, DART seeks to create communities that honor people power as the true catalyst for change.
DART stands out from other organizing networks thanks to our unrivaled investment in our team members through intentional training and development. You will learn basic organizing principles while gaining concrete skills, such as identifying and developing volunteer leaders, planning effective meetings, researching problems, driving forward issue campaigns, conducting a power analysis, fundraising from grassroots, corporate, and foundation sources, and developing and managing an organizational budget. Ongoing professional development continues through individualized coaching and mentoring, as well as local, regional, and national staff trainings and retreats.
About the Work
Three of our local organizations are hiring Lead Community Organizers who will train people of faith to hold political and economic systems accountable for justice. Your work will empower everyday people to advocate on their own behalf for justice in the form of affordable housing, police reform, public transportation and more.
Day-to-day, the Lead Community Organizer/Executive Director will spend most of their time in the field coaching community leaders and recruiting new congregations to join the organization. Through three annual processes, DART organizations identify community problems, research viable solutions, and rally people to demand the implementation of those solutions by public officials. You will foster relationships, develop leaders, drive forward issue campaigns, and manage the operations of the organization.
Who You Are
DART community organizers have a passion for justice and a strong desire to make change. As an ideal candidate, you are someone who is naturally curious, values strong relationships, and is energized by the prospect of uniting people around a common cause. Community organizers are afforded a great deal of autonomy when it comes to building their schedules. They also need to make themselves available to community members, many of whom work during the day, which may require organizers to work nights and weekends.
The ideal candidate does not have to be personally religious. Because you will be working daily with faith communities, you should have a genuine respect for the faith traditions of others.
DART organizations are diverse coalitions that include communities of color, low-to-moderate-income communities and immigrant communities. We strongly encourage people from these backgrounds, as well as fluent Spanish speakers and DACA recipients, to apply.
Skills and Characteristics:
Core passion for justice and equity
Excellent relationship-building skills
Willingness to be trained to work with diverse faith communities
Two years of community organizing experience or equivalent (experience with DART Center is preferred)
Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a car

Interim Pastor - Chicago, IL
Listed 06-08-2021
Employer: Grace Baptist Church of Chicago, 1020 W Bryn Mawr Ave., Chicago, IL 60660 | (630) 355-8181 | www.gracebaptistchicago.com/
Location: Chicago, IL
Start Date:
Type: Part time, average 10 hours per week
Download: Interim Pastor Job Description
Grace Baptist Church of Chicago, a welcoming and affirming American Baptist congregation founded in 1987, seeks a part-time interim pastor (average 10 hours per week). The pastor will be responsible for pastoral care and for monthly worship services, as well as leading programs such as Bible studies that pastor and congregation decide to do. During the Covid-19 pandemic, these services will be online using Zoom. Experience with Zoom is a plus. Once it is safe to worship in person again, services will take place in rented space in the building of a church on the north side of Chicago.
The interim pastor will also be responsible for leading the congregation in tasks appropriate for an interim period: coming to terms with history, discovering a new identity, allowing needed leadership change, re-affirming denominational linkage, and committing to new directions in ministry. The interim pastor and congregation will work closely with our regional executive minister in carrying out these tasks.
The interim minister will also be responsible for leading the congregation in participation in ministries beyond the local church, such as denominational and regional activities (ABC-USA, ABCMC, AWAB) as well as the congregation’s volunteer work with The Night Ministry and The Crib (homeless shelter for young adults). The interim pastor is expected to cooperate with such local organizations as the Edgewater Community Religious Association and the Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches.
Applicants for the interim position should hold the M.Div. or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited institution; current seminarians will also be considered. Strengths in preaching, pastoral care, LGBTQ and family ministries, and worship planning and leadership are desired. Musical talents are a plus.
Grace is open to and enjoys creative, non-traditional (and carefully planned) worship services. Ministry with music and arts is important. Volunteers in the congregation provide music for services with the pastor’s leadership.
Skills with social media are a plus. It is hoped that the interim pastor will help the church improve its online presence and visibility, and help keep the church’s web site current. Volunteers are ready to help with that effort.
Commitment to Baptist principles such as congregational autonomy, priesthood of all believers, and separation of religion and government is important. Applicants who are not American Baptist will be considered, but they must be open to working within the context of the American Baptist Churches in the USA and Metro Chicago.
In considering pastoral candidates, Grace will show no preference on the basis of race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. The church may do a background check, including a criminal background check, of candidates. The pastor must agree with the Code of Ethics of the Ministers Council of the American Baptist Churches (http://www.abc-ohio.org/DOCUMENTS/Ordination/MinisterialLeadersCovenantandCodeofEthicsAmended2004.pdf).
Interested individuals are invited to apply for this position. Please send a letter of interest; resume and/or denominational personnel profile (ministrelife.org and/or ABPS); and the names addresses (postal or email), and phone numbers of 3 references to grace.chicago.search@gmail.com by June 30, 2021. Questions about the position or church may be sent to the same email address.
Please note that this is an interim position, not a long-term position. A pastoral search committee will be actively seeking a long-term pastor during the interim period. The interim pastor may apply for the long-term position, but will not be given preference.

First Presbyterian Church of DuPage is looking for a full-time solo pastor for our congregation in Bolingbrook, IL. We are a diverse and inclusive congregation with around 100 active members. We worship in person following CDC guidelines and also broadcast on Facebook Watch. We are active in several local missions and have active Trustees, Deacons, Women’s, and Session groups. Our church was established in 1833 and we built our present church building in 2004. It includes large areas for worship, fellowship, and Christian Education. We are located in the Chicago west suburbs, 30 miles from the city. Bolingbrook, IL has been listed as a best place to live in America, according to Money magazine, for its diverse population, health and safety, and cost of living. The position is available now. Our Pastor Nominating Committee is actively reviewing PIF and interviewing potential candidates.
FPCD is a diverse church of disciples following in the Bible and the example of our Savior Jesus Christ. Our goal would be to grow our congregation by building programs for our youth and younger families. Our current traditional service is moving forward with online services with more modern music. Our vision is to share Christ’s love with each other, our families, and our community. We support each other with Bible Studies, Youth, Men’s and Women’s small groups, our love for music, Deacons and Session member projects. Being a culturally diverse congregation including members from the African nations of Cameroon, Ghana, and Nigeria we seek to better support those members’ beliefs, political, health, and safety concerns for their home countries. FPCD is committed to giving service to our congregation, shut-ins, and the community. FPCD has volunteer projects for our neighboring school and local missions and a community service volunteer program. Our congregation is older with high regards for tradition. We would like to put back in place our social events and luncheons, for shared conversation, warmth of friendship, and fellowship.
In the last year we have created online worship services, online Bible studies and online fellowship hour. We continue these online events even as we begin in person worship again. FPCD has an informational website, which has given us a larger presence on social media, mainly Facebook.
Our church is the oldest church in the area. We were established in 1833 and maintain a historical library that details our background; many of the first settlers in the area belonged to our congregation. Our current building is a beautiful, functional building built in 2004 that we open to small groups and another congregation. Currently we are interested in more partnerships to fully utilize our space. Our Women’s group organizes food baskets for a local school and a giving tree for new gifts and toys to support kids at Christmas. We support Girl Scout fundraisers and charter three levels of Boy Scouts, who learn new skills and serve the community. This year session distributed Advent bags containing Advent wreath craft, Advent scripture readings, and activities and goodies for families to do together for the holidays. A huge part of the vitality of FPCD’s fellowship are the luncheons, community service projects, and social events hosted by our Deacons, men’s and women’s groups.
We seek a pastor to guide each member in their spiritual growth, strengthen our relationship ties, grow our membership, and lead us in sharing God’s love with the community through the commitment of our time, skills, and love. We ask for guidance to become a more welcoming and inclusive congregation. We desire assistance to develop the vision of our mission work; to inspire new activities, increase 6 Revised March 29, 2021 participation, and improve coordination of our generous in heart small groups. We wish to increase the use of social media and outreach to engage our community.
We seek a pastor with strong preaching, teaching, and worship skills and spiritual maturity. We seek an initiating leader who is entrepreneurial and can help us develop and grow, adept at partnering with a variety of people and organizations, as well as in strengthening relationships among the members of the congregation.

Solo Pastor - Mendham, NJ
Listed 05-24-2021
Employer: First Presbyterian Church, 14 Hilltop Rd., Mendham, NJ 07945 | 973-543-4012 | www.hilltopchurch.org
Location: Mendham, NJ
Start Date: 09-01-2021
Type: Full Time
Please check out their MIF # 04833.AE0 for additional information and self-referral details on the Church Leadership Connection.
Our mission statement outlines our vision for ministry. In acknowledging the presence and power of God, we celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper as tangible ways of experiencing Christ's ministry. As we grow in faith, we turn to our pastor to offer hope and guidance by preaching the word in prayerful, Christ-filled sermons that are relevant to our lives. We fulfill our commitments thru prayers, study, sharing, teaching and serving.
Our Church’s defining qualities are our inclusive, welcoming, congregation and our music program. Music is critical to worship and we have invested in sound systems, instruments and staff. Our music director leads the programming of traditional music for service. We have a solid adult choir, bell choir and youth choir. We host an annual concert that draws outside singers. Our congregation values pastoral outreach and visits. We have dedicated deacons who are aligned with each congregant. The pastor identifies and addresses visitation needs. We also have 11 trained Stephen Ministers to support our church family. The education programs are well-defined and volunteer led. We offer Sunday School and Youth programs, Adult Education classes, Communion and Confirmation classes and Bible study groups. Hands-on mission programs at our Church provide outreach on local, national, and international levels and engage volunteers of all ages. Our fellowship events offer connection between all demographics within our congregation.
We envision our pastor to be a visible, pro-active example of outreach in the church and community. A major focus area for our newly called pastor is increasing the attraction of Hilltop to the people of the Mendhams and surrounding communities. As a congregation, we will work with the pastor to invite people to enthusiastically join and worship with us. Our greater community has many unchurched individuals/families and this provides great opportunities for us to reach out to our fellow Christians. Along with the goals of adding new member families and invigorating our existing congregation, we anticipate that our officers and lay leadership will be trained and motivated in serving our church. We are looking for a pastor to provide an environment for individuals and families to immerse themselves into our programs and ministries. We are looking for renewed commitment of our members to willingly support our stewardship and mission in money, time and talent. We need to provide learning and understanding of what it means to be Presbyterian - our traditions, faith and beliefs. Our pastor should be involved and available; visiting existing and future church families and children in our Sunday school and Youth programs. S/he will participate in and support our fellowship, hands on mission and our fund-raising activities.
We are looking to our pastor to lead the congregation with strong, motivating messages from the pulpit. To help us grow in our faith, our pastor should provide Bible-based, theological preaching that encourages us to apply Christian lessons in our daily interactions and guides us in understanding our responsibilities as Presbyterians. We are seeking a pastor who recognizes how to build on existing congregational foundations. To this end, our pastor needs to be comfortable and motivating with encouraging stewardship. We pray for a pastor who is competent in encouraging the congregation to volunteer their time and talents. We anticipate that our weekly gathering for lessons in God’s word and fellowship results not only in our own personal grounding but also in congregational kinship and collaboration. We anticipate that our pastor will inspire lay leadership by showing us how to spread the good news. Whether it is participating in our many mission activities or promoting our Deacon’s program, our congregation will look to our pastor to see how to respond to those in need of God’s love and care. By working with staff and committee chairs, the pastor can model collaboration and direct our talents towards fulfilling our outreach goals. Our church family anticipates that our pastor will be welcoming to the community groups who share our campus, from the Hilltop Christian Nursery School, local Scouts, and AA fellowship to potentially helping others to find a home at Hilltop Church.
