Solo Pastor - Stockbridge, GA

Please check out their MIF # 22168.AC0 for additional information and self-referral details on the Church Leadership Connection. This position is suitable for a first call and would include a housing allowance.

We welcome ALL into our church with the love of Jesus Christ. Everyone deserves grace, so everyone is welcome at Stockbridge Presbyterian Church.

We minister to our congregation through fellowship opportunities such as Sunday School, Children’s Church, Bible study groups, Children’s Choir, Sanctuary Choir, and Prayer Warriors.

We reach out to our neighbors in this diverse community with a variety of activities, keeping Jesus in our hearts while helping to lift up those in need. We feed and clothe our neighborhood friends with Joseph’s Pantry, Goodness and Groceries, Neighborhood School Supply Drive, Christmas Baskets, and Coat Closet. Each summer, we leave the church and bring a “portable” Vacation Bible School to select neighborhoods. These ministries are funded by our generous congregation, friends of our church, and our huge, annual Community Yard Sale.

We gladly share our building with our local AA chapter, Meals on Wheels, and Boy Scouts.

In addition, our Session and congregation are always praying for more opportunities to help our neighbors. There is always more to be done.

Stockbridge Presbyterian Church exists to help our neighbors. When they have a need, we want to help.

Joseph’s Pantry, our 35-year-old food ministry, provides canned foods and dry goods to help our neighbors through rough patches. We work with Henry County DFCS to identify hungry families that need our help. Our friendly local grocery, Food Depot, gives them vouchers for perishables.

Goodness and Groceries began around 2014 when a local grade schooler wished for a school lunch each weekend, because she was going hungry once she arrived home. Now, each week our members gather to bag easy to prepare meals for around 90 children from four local schools. The bags, and a handwritten note of encouragement, go home with the kids every Friday.

Our Christmas Baskets outreach was inspired by the Goodness and Groceries ministry. The generous school administrators talk to the parents and compose a Christmas List for the kids. Our members “adopt” about two dozen of these kids and fulfill their lists, to go along with an overflowing basket of groceries.

Our newest outreach for our neighborhood friends is our outdoor Coat Closet. Donated coats, socks, gloves, and blankets are available to whomever needs them in our covered pavilion.

The new Pastor of Stockbridge Presbyterian Church will embrace our spirit of outreach and love for our diverse community. Our outreach ministries touch many lives and our new Pastor will join us in reaching even more who still need Jesus’s love. This Pastor will provide dynamic worship leadership and pastoral care for our members. By inspiring new ideas and helping our members discover and use their unique gifts, this Pastor will support the spiritual health of our congregation.

A key concern is the health of our Discipleship program. We have very few youth or children at SPC, and our Discipleship programs have suffered as a result. Children’s Sunday School and our youth program are currently idle due to lack of participation. Our new Pastor will provide fresh insight, ideas, and support in spiritual formation, as we work to improve this ministry.

Our new Pastor will be intentional in developing spiritual growth and prayer practices among the Session as well. The Session holds an extra meeting once a month for studies on discernment, prayer, and seeking God’s will for our church. We have been making some minor yet deliberate changes to our programs and worship to ensure that everything we do as leaders of SPC is focused on God. We have made an overall commitment to slowing down and listening for God’s voice at every opportunity.

Our new Pastor will arrive with a solid theological foundation and a thorough knowledge of Presbyterian polity. This foundation and knowledge, along with God’s biblical word, will influence our Pastor’s teachings. However, he or she will also search for lessons from our Lord in the everyday experiences of our congregation. This person will be competent in moderating our regular Session meetings, but also allow a free exchange of ideas and open dialogue.

Stockbridge Presbyterian Church is a family, and we will welcome our new Pastor as a vital member of it with open arms. We think of the neighborhoods that surround our church building as part of our family. Our new Pastor will build upon this positivity so that we grow spiritually closer as a congregation and spread God’s love to those in our community. Approachability and a collaborative spirit create and cultivate brand new opportunities for evangelism.

Transitional Pastor - Van Wert, OH

A ministry opportunity: fraught with hazard and promise.

This is a temporary/transition position. Minimum 7-9 months, possible 2 years.

This position follows an involuntary dissolution of Pastoral relationship. The nominal cause was need for different Pastoral skills. The actual cause was failure of leadership (administration, communication, accountability).

The church was, for years, led in anti-presbytery sentiment by an overbearing Board of Trustees. This was amplified by the Pastor’s sentiments and actions.

The church rolls and member care collapsed from neglect and inattention.

The church has gone through the mainline demographic shift dropping from 100 members in worship to 40 (pre-COVID).

Areas of progress. The current Session has consistently restored relationship with Presbytery and is whole heartedly learning about Presbyterian process and polity.

The current Session has made significant steps in restoring the accuracy of rolls and clarity of member care. The task is not complete.

The Board of Trustees has been successfully folded into the Session in order to avoid 2 governments.

Areas of extraordinary promise. This church has an actual chance of growing due to the Sessions leadership and current plan. The Session benefited greatly from consultant leadership and now is building a program of “connective discipleship”, a program of membership engagement and growth.

This program will require the Pastoral ability to lead small group work, directly applying sermon to real life. Opportunity and challenge.

Tasks. Transition dynamics. Interim tasks partially complete. Administrative repair. Preaching, member care in the midst of COVID.

Regarding COVID-19. The church has been worshipping online (video) March 15 – May 15, In person May 15 to November 15, online November 15 to February 7.

The Session has abided by and been attentive to CDC guidance, while seeking to maintain open status as reasonable. There is an undercurrent of COVID denial.

This position requires a maturity built upon life experience and requires a very clear capability in terms of social process and congregational accountability. The areas of conflict are residual, and present and real. While they are not resolved but are in process, and there is motion.

The preferred candidate will have 5-years experience in management, or group process, or entrepreneurial leadership.

This position has support of the Presbytery through 2 experienced conflict managers with personal experience with the congregation.

This congregation is located 45 minutes from Fort Wayne, IN; 1 hour and 40 minutes from Toledo, OH; 2 hours and 15 from Ann Arbor, MI.

While the congregation is challenged for membership – it has a very substantial endowment.

The position will follow Presbytery guidelines for effective salary which includes the housing allowance, depending on experience and capability. Plus, full Board of Pension participation and Presbytery benefits.

The position is available anytime after March 1. The position will be vacant on April 30. A flexible entry into the position is negotiable.

Position assessment by Rev. David Good, Bridge/Transition Pastor, former COM liaison. mangendave@frontier.com

Contact: Anna Baker, Transition Team, 513-262-6249, acbattle@gmail.com

Description of a Temporary/Transition Pastor
First Presbyterian Church of Van Wert, Ohio

At our core, the people at First Presbyterian Church share Christ by:

  • Generously giving our lives and resources

  • Fostering healthy relationships

  • Meeting needs beyond our walls

  • Offering opportunity for spiritual growth for all ages

  • Providing a peaceful and loving place of worship

Our strategic focus is to meet the practical needs and be a safe haven for our local community.

Our working priorities are:

  • Meet the practical needs by feeding our community

  • Remodel our facilities to be a safe haven for our community

  • Enhance Sunday morning to be more personal, familiar and child friendly

  • Communicate who we are through rebranding, website, and social media

In light of the core values, vision and future plans, and after prayerful deliberation, the Session sought a different set of spiritual gifts and skills in order to move forward in the transformation process.  By a congregational vote of 34-4, the old Pastoral relationship was brought to a close which brings us to the current situation.

We need transitional leadership as we move forward in a pastoral search for installed leadership.

Expectations:

  • Lead and coordinate worship service

  • Develop healthy staff relationships; allowing staff creative freedom without micromanaging

  • Providing appropriate pastoral care

  • Moderating Session meetings; attendance and encouragement of committees

  • Welcome visitors, engage with the congregation, and build community outside the doors

  • Lead a congregational process which balances the implementation of our values and goals within the limits of our human resources

  • Since we are in the middle of a transformation, we expect our pastor’s support as we witness and take our mission to our larger community.

If you have the skills for a temporary Pastoral service in this situation, we ask that you please contact committee member Anna Baker, Transition Team, 513-262-6249, acbattle@gmail.com. We look forward to the conversation.

It is noted that this position description was drafted in March and does not describe the changes such as YouTube preaching, and video conferencing which have taken place.

Please check out their MIF # 08608.AD0 for additional information and self-referral details on the Church Leadership Connection. This position is suitable for a first call and would include a housing allowance.

First Presbyterian Pampa is a small, traditional, tightly knit, intergenerational church family located in the Texas Panhandle, less than an hour from Amarillo, Texas. We are governed by a nine-member session, two trustees, and no deacons. The Panhandle area has tons to offer and is a great place to live!

Our vision for ministry is straightforward. We strive to be a reflection of God's love to not only our Church family, but to the community as a whole. We live this out by spending time praying together, supporting one another through life's anguishes, as well as times of joy.

Our members are heavily involved in the community. Several serve on multiple boards, volunteer weekly and are community leaders. Our church is involved as a whole by:

  • Providing a Wednesday night bible study for children from our church and the community. This group serves the Good Samaritan Food Pantry once a month.

  • Holding church services/events that are attended by members of other churches and the community. Such as: Kirkin’ of the Tartans, 11PM Candlelight Christmas Eve Service, Ash Wednesday, Seder Meal, Palm Sunday, and Men’s Thanksgiving Dinner.

  • Hosting an annual Community wide Trunk or Treat with a complimentary hotdog meal.

  • Participating in a Christmas mission involving our youth

  • Playing the carillon bells as a voice of our church to our neighborhood.

  • Sponsoring a Boy Scout Troop that meets weekly in our basement.

  • Contributing to the 4 major PCUSA offerings.

We are looking for a minister to spark a feeling of belonging and desire to attend services and get more members involved in church activities. We need guidance and direction in ways to engage our current members in a collective church wide activity that is purposeful and will meet a need in our community. We are open to new ideas implemented elsewhere with great results that would have a positive impact here. We seek guidance to do God’s work, so that we would be a reflection of God’s love in our ministry to the present-day world.

Our prayer is that the new pastor will be the catalyst in a movement looking in a more outwardly and forward direction. Our church has been without a called pastor since late 2016 and we are eager for a new called leader. During this time, we have developed strong leadership within the members of the church which, we believe, is part of God’s plan for the future of our congregation. We have an education building with classrooms and a parlor for church fellowship. Our sanctuary has beautiful stained-glass windows and a digital pipe organ to enhance our worship service.

The citizens of Pampa are very proud to live here with multiple organizations that enhance the community and support those in need. We cheer for our students in sporting events and the arts. The Panhandle area is a unique blend of what it's like to be a Texan with farming, ranching, wind energy, petroleum and natural gas serving as the basis of our economy. It is not uncommon at all to hear one speak of Pampa as a great place to raise a family. We are trusting God to call a pastor who will be involved in all areas of our church, attentive to congregational care, and inspire us to become a larger presence in our community.

First Presbyterian qualifies for Pathways to Renewal.

Please check out their MIF # 05347.AF0 for additional information and self-referral details on the Church Leadership Connection. This call would include a housing allowance.

For over 160 years, Westminster Buffalo has been committed to working for a better city and world. We are guided in our life by the study and reflection of sacred texts, practice of hospitality that welcomes the stranger, service that assists those in need, and a witness to social justice. Comprising a uniquely forward-thinking Presbyterian church and a premier early childhood program, Westminster Buffalo presents myriad opportunities for learning, service, and multi-faith collaboration for anyone regardless of race, socioeconomic status, sexuality, gender identity, citizenship status, age, or religious affiliation.

Outreach to immigrants and refugees began in 1894, with the establishment of Westminster Community House on the city’s East Side, and continues to this day through: Westminster Economic Development Initiative (WEDI), which offers entrepreneur training, small business development, and education to underserved communities; and ENERGY, a tutoring program for children of refugees. Westminster Early Childhood Programs (WECP) provides care and accredited education for 200 children, infancy through age five. WPC has a strong tradition of supporting social justice and is committed to interfaith dialogue and friendship. We embrace the ideal of love and equity, including celebrating the first public same-gender Presbyterian marriage in New York in 2011, before the 2015 approval by the PC(USA).

Glorifying God through worship, music, and the arts is at the crux of Westminster’s identity and mission. We believe that the worship of God is an act of honoring the source of life and is to be conducted with dignity and respect while reflecting the warmth, creativity, and joy of the God we honor. There are two formal, lectionary-based services each Sunday. Westminster is committed to sacred music of the highest caliber; anthems and hymnody are chosen to lift the hearts of worshippers and reinforce scripture in song.

We seek a pastor who will continue the tradition of excellence in lectionary-based preaching, liturgy, music, and community engagement that was established under the leadership of previous pastors. In particular, we hope to strengthen our mission and outreach programs by supporting the ongoing work of WEDI and Bailey Green. We desire increased volunteer opportunities for all members, but especially for youth, possibly through more small-commitment activities that families could do together. Working with our Associate Pastor for Christian Education and our Director of Youth Ministries, the new pastor should strive for greater diversity in the ages of members with the goal of creating a thriving intergenerational ministry. He or she should seek not only to maintain but to strengthen the educational and fellowship opportunities for adults and youth available at WPC, as well as nurturing the church's relationship with our preschool (WECP). By working with WECP's director, the new pastor will develop mutually beneficial interactions between church and school. Finally, he or she will need to oversee the financial health of the whole Westminster Presbyterian Society, which includes church and preschool. As head of staff, the new pastor will monitor budgeting, fundraising, and the maintaining of our facilities to serve our larger spiritual goals.

The new pastor should exemplify strong and compassionate leadership and have a personality that easily connects with all kinds of people. In the pulpit, this person must continue the Westminster tradition of effective preaching. In all forms of communication, the new pastor should manifest a progressive, inclusive theology that is spiritually inspiring and intellectually challenging. He or she should motivate lay leadership while demonstrating strong organizational and staff management skills. We seek a pastor whose leadership style is collegial and collaborative, not only with lay leaders of the congregation and staff, but also with the Presbytery. Finally, he or she should demonstrate a strong commitment to both pastoral care and Westminster's many outreach programs to the larger community, which we seek to expand.

Please check out their MIF # 05387.AF0 for additional information and self-referral details on the Church Leadership Connection. This position is suitable for a first call and would include a housing allowance.

Our vision is to be a congregation that worships God joyfully, creatively, reverently; we want to be a community that excludes no one, nurturing and empowering members and newcomers alike. We endeavor to be a movement that carries Christ’s grace to the streets, courageously confronting society’s ills.

We live out our vision in our weekly Bible based, theologically sound worship services. We pray for each other and celebrate special events in each others’ lives. We appreciate themed worship services, such as preaching series, creatively observing liturgical seasons, and relaxing our order of worship in the summer. We have deep respect for the study and proclamation of scripture. We appreciate a challenging charge at the end of the service. Christian hospitality is one of our strengths. Our members strive to be genuine. We greet visitors warmly helping them feel welcome. Our Christian Education gatherings are well attended both by members and by others in the community. We are involved in a wide variety of outreach ministries, originating both from our church and our community. Our weekly worship services provide opportunities for lay participation, including choir, ushers/greeters, acolytes, and liturgists. We strive to participate in local, regional, and global missions. We have sent groups and individuals on mission trips in order to share the love of Christ. We also reach out to our own community through several regular activities.

First Presbyterian Church is located in the center of the village of Springville and most of our members are active in the community. Therefore we are aware of the ever changing needs of our neighbors. Springville is a small community of about 5000 people, but draws daily visitors from the surrounding area who come for shopping, medical care, youth activities and cultural events. Three regional schools are located within 2 miles of our church, also contributing to the busyness of the village. We address the needs of the community with Christian love and compassion. We hold a rummage sale biannually which many area residents depend on to purchase inexpensive clothing and household goods. Since 2017 we have hosted quarterly free community dinners. They are held late in the month when people who depend on government assistance may be struggling to make ends meet. We also work closely with other organizations such as the local affiliate of Love In the Name of Christ. We share our facility with community groups. For example the Springville Chorale practices and performs in our sanctuary. We host two weekly Bible studies which are open to community members. Our proximity to Buffalo allows for ministry to a diverse group of people. Since 2017 we have supported the Buffalo Peace House in a variety of ways. Their ministry provides lodging and support for asylum seekers.

An effective, theologically sound pastor will help our body of Christ grow spiritually, allowing us to better meet our goals. The pastor will inspire and encourage us; teach us, support us, and build relationships within and beyond the walls of the church, and will act as a connecting point for our outreach activities. New ideas for ministry and service will help us expand our positive influence in our local community and beyond.

To be a successful leader at First Presbyterian Church of Springville, our pastor should be an authentic, spiritually mature person whose life is centered in Christ. This person needs to be compassionate, personable, energetic and a bridge-builder with an overwhelming desire to serve the Lord who will encourage everyone to work together to fulfill our mission. Many of our members are senior citizens, so a heart for the senior population is important. It is also important that our leader have vision for church growth that will lead to more balanced intergenerational membership. An appreciation for rural ministry is needed, as is a willingness to live in and participate in our community life. Residents enjoy living in the Springville area because of an abundance of outdoor activities including cross country and downhill skiing, hiking, hunting, fishing and golfing. Springville also offers public and private education including a preschool for children with disabilities. Local theater and arts programs are offered through the Springville Center for the Arts and medical care through Bertrand Chaffee Hospital and local medical providers. We also enjoy close proximity to Buffalo and its many cultural and recreational activities including museums, professional sports teams, touring Broadway musicals, an orchestra and a beautiful waterfront area.

Please check out their MIF # 05355.AA0 for additional information and self-referral details on the Church Leadership Connection. This position is suitable for a first call and would include a housing allowance.

Our congregation has a deep faith in God’s abiding love, and a foundational belief in the central tenets of the great commandments: We strive to follow Christ by loving God and loving neighbors. We try, with God’s help, to live this vision by dedicating ourselves to doing the work of Christ in our community. We’re a welcoming and loving congregation with an emphasis on spiritual growth and service. We seek passionate and challenging preaching/teaching during our worship services. Difficult topics are discussed openly and without stigma, while dialog is encouraged across a range of ideologies. We support and respect each other even across differences. We are a small congregation, but our membership is active and happy to help with an “everyone’s a deacon mentality.” We generally work with a sense of humor and genuinely enjoy each other’s company as we try to live holy and joyful lives, but that attitude isn’t reserved just for our church members. We have many active and ongoing community ministries, and we are known throughout the area as being an outward-looking congregation. In our ongoing attempts to encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, and do good to one another, our church often serves as home to local groups needing meeting space and support for food justice, mental health, environmental concerns, and human rights issues. We strive to be a center for spiritual healing, inspiration, hope, and tangible support for the most vulnerable in our area.

We feel called to welcome all people, both into our sanctuary and into active membership. We accept people wherever they may be in their faith journey, and we celebrate the diversity of God’s creation by being an open and affirming community of faith with fully inclusive worship services. In following Christ, we advocate for the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors. Many of our ministries focus on food justice whether in the form of a monthly food pantry, a yearly food drive involving the entire community and regularly raising two tons of food, or selling Equal Exchange/fair-trade goods to support farmers worldwide. We offer free use of our building to mental health organizations and drug and alcohol abuse prevention agencies. We also provide space for supervised parental visitation. As we care for all of God’s creation, we’re a certified Earth Care Congregation. We host a massive yard sale each year with the proceeds going to local missions, and we run an alternative Christmas market encouraging the community to consider giving non-traditional/charitable gifts instead of commercial ones. We are a regional collection site for disaster relief hygiene kits, and we collect and distribute school supplies, hats, underwear, and mittens for local children in need. Even with so many opportunities to serve, our members consistently express the desire to do more around global issues. The desire to show Christ’s love is the thread that holds our congregation together.

The pastor who accepts a call to our congregation will be a strong, engaging, articulate, and open-minded worship leader who teaches as much as preaches and encourages spiritual growth by both supporting and challenging the congregation through their sermons and worship. They will be someone who can comfortably provide support, encouragement and compassion for those suffering illness or other life issues and be a presence in times of personal or collective need. They will foster a strong sense of fellowship and model open communication. They will support/steer our service work, while strategically guiding us towards continued financial stability and growth of the congregation. Our new pastor will be relied upon to help discern God’s call in both our community and the world at large while providing insights into how Christ’s ministry can best inform our daily lives.

Any pastor who is open to being called to this position will be as open and welcoming as our congregation. They will embrace diversity across a broad spectrum of faith, culture, race, and identity. They will have a passion for engaging preaching/teaching both on personal and global issues and a heart for service. They will be hopeful, positive, authentic, and willing to look past surface level measurements (number of members, size of endowments) to focus on actual impact. While we would never expect any pastor to fulfill all of our mission initiatives, we would love to have their full support, encouragement, and counsel in these endeavors. In that vein, they will possess a zeal for social justice and helping those in need. We look forward to learning and growing along with our new pastor, and we hope they’ll bring new ideas and inspire new outreaches. We would be especially excited if they offer new ways to connect with our local college community. The pastor who accepts a call for Fredonia Presbyterian should have a sense of humor and enjoy thinking outside the box. They would have an appreciation for quirkiness, and a willingness to meet people where they are rather than rely solely on tradition or dogma. They would be flexible enough to help us adapt and grow to fit our changing needs, but always stand firm in their commitment to love God and neighbor without hesitation or reservation.

Senior Pastor - Washington, D.C.

Listed 02-01-2021

Employer: New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, 1313 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20005 | 202-393-3700 | www.nyapc.org

Location: Washington, D.C.

Start Date: 09-01-2021

Type: Full Time

Please check out their MIF # 00424.AE0 for additional information and self-referral details on the Church Leadership Connection. This call includes a housing allowance.

We are a mid-sized (300 member), progressive, congregation in the heart of Washington, DC, with a long history of social action ministry, member care, and inspiring preaching.

we are searching for candidates who will work collaboratively with our lay leadership to continue that tradition while sharing:

  • Preaching informed by and sharing the thinking of ancient and modern scholars and theologians;

  • Leadership and management skills that can help our complex organization work smoothly; and

  • Commitment to driving corporate and individual spiritual growth

We are eager to hear from any and all candidates who feel called and able to tackle this very big job! That includes individuals from a broad range of backgrounds, different racial/ethnic groups, and even non-Presbyterians currently working in denominations we are in communion with.

NYAPC is a historic church located in the nation’s capital. Rapid development over the last decade has seen an influx of new residents, including young families and empty nesters. This has attracted new congregants to our church, but our membership remains steady largely because of members moving away due to their profession.

The rapid growth of metropolitan Washington, D.C. has spurred ongoing discussions as to how to grow our church as we respond to these changes.

We have opportunities for growth, substantial revenue from Pledges, Contributions, building rent and bequests. But we also have $3 million in debt from investments in our building and an annual operating deficit.

We have nearly exhausted opportunities to cut costs while still maintaining our current social action, member care, preaching and operational programs, including necessary services provided to support our tenants.

If we are to thrive and continue doing God’s work on this corner of Washington, D.C., we must grow in members and money. However, we are only interested in growing if we can do so while honoring God’s call to our social action work in the city and world; to worship with reverence and joy; to care for one another and our neighbors; and to deepen our experience of God’s presence, love, and call. We believe God is calling NYAPC to do all of these AND grow. We pray God will call a senior pastor to our pulpit who will join us in making it happen.

We seek a pastor who embodies servant leadership, excels at preaching, prioritizes administration and management, ministers to congregants, and guides us to grow in faith. We are not seeking someone to “fix” or micromanage us. Rather, we seek a minister who will nurture and challenge us to live lives that truly reflect Christ’s example and with whom our dedicated lay leaders can partner.

We crave preaching that is grounded in the Bible and draws from the best thinking of theologians;
reflects current societal issues; and engages, inspires, and moves us to action.

We seek a senior pastor who will be open and accessible to our entire congregation and help us improve how we care for members by phone, online, at home, and in a hospital.

Our senior pastor will also help us grow spiritually, no matter where we are in our faith journeys. Recognizing the diversity of our backgrounds, preferences, personalities and needs, our pastor will offer education, exploration, and a range of spiritual practices to more deeply experience God’s presence.

We hope our new senior pastor will truly be a servant leader who understands, respects, and uses the enormous gifts and insights of our lay leaders and volunteers while collaborating with us as our work evolves and challenging us to align our activities with our mutually adopted plans. Finally, our pastor will insist on high-quality, effective, church operations and marshal the resources to make it happen.

Residency for New Pastors - Bloomfield Hills, MI

Listed 01-28-2021

Employer: Kirk in the Hills, 1340 West Long Lake Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI US 48302 | 248-626-2515 | kirkinthehills.org

The Bill Robinson Residency for New Pastors, Kirk in the Hills, Bloomfield Hills, MI for 2021-2022

Like all professions, the first years of a church leadership career are often challenging. New church leaders must establish an identity and develop the work and study habits necessary for providing spiritual leadership to their congregations. Yet many new pastors in their first congregations find themselves professionally and geographically isolated, receiving too little support in working through tough transitional issues and developing a healthy pastoral identity. The result is that many promising and gifted young church leaders become frustrated and drop out of ministry within the first years of their service. In other cases, inexperienced church leaders may slip into leadership styles and practices that are detrimental to congregational life and unable to sustain their ministries.

The Robinson Residency is modeled after other congregation-based residency programs, in which, like the medical school model, new pastors spend time as "residents" in a teaching congregation before assuming leadership of their own church.

This two-year residency program is for seminary graduates who hold particular promise as pastors and wish to develop their ministerial skills under dedicated supervision in a large church setting. This is an ordained position in which the Robinson Resident serves and learns alongside the staff and congregation of Kirk in the Hills.

For the 2021-2022 cycle of this program, the resident will be engaged in strengthening our “Cooperative Parish” with two other Presbyterian churches in the surrounding area. We see this as a “retro-fit” of the old “circuit riding” ministry from years ago. We believe that having experience and understanding Cooperative Parish ministry will be essential in the post-pandemic church. This opportunity will allow the new pastor to do/receive the following:

  • Offer regular preaching, pastoral care, worship planning, outreach and formation programs at Starr Presbyterian Church, Royal Oak

  • Preach once a month at First Presbyterian Church of Troy and share responsibilities in care and leadership with their current pastor

  • Receive the relational and programmatic support of Kirk in the Hills (teaching congregation) where the resident will also have a variety of engagement depending on their specific gifts and interests

The program, named in honor of Bill Robinson who taught (and continues to teach) Sunday school at Kirk in the Hills for more than 70 years, begins in the summer of 2021 and lasts two years.

This is a full-time position.

For more information or to apply, please contact:
Richard (Rick) Smith, search committee member, richardnsmith53@gmail.com

Please check out their MIF # 21564.AC0 for additional information and self-referral details on the Church Leadership Connection. This call could be suitable for a first call and would include a housing allowance.

Per our Mission Statement - in covenant with God and according to the teachings of our Lord, Jesus Christ, dedicate ourselves to work for the manifestation of God's will in the world through worship, witness, teaching, study, service, prayer and ministering. We dedicate ourselves and grow our congregation through Bible study, volunteer service in our community and opening our church for community groups to meet.

Our Compassionate Ministries committee regularly donates to local charities, and we regularly collect food stuffs for these local charities. Congregation members serve on local non-profit boards and volunteer for local food banks and other non-profit organizations. In addition to serving on local non-profit boards and volunteering, we want to plan events where our congregation can increase our community exposure by work on service projects not just donating money. We want to investigate forming partnerships with other churches in the community, especially youth programs, to engage in special ministry and mission projects. The new pastor will also hold weekly devotional at our Early Learning Center, and possibly hold these in the sanctuary. We’ll use this as a springboard to invite the students’ parents to our church. The new pastor will also publicize our church to the community by joining the community ministers group and lead a weekly Bible Study at the nearby retirement community.

This pastor will review and reassign committees in order to get new ideas and fresh perspectives on the way we do things; provide moral support for those who may be ill or injured; and strengthen our Sunday School and other group meetings. The pastor will engage our community, both in person and on social media, extolling our church benefits and giving us greater awareness.

We hope this candidate will be young or young of mind & heart, with energy, charisma, independent thinking, and not a follower of the current trend. He or she will provide encouragement and teaching from the pulpit. They will also possess situational awareness of the congregation with excellent communication skills to both children and older congregants. The candidate will have strong involvement in our Early Learning Center.

Start Date: 05-01-2021

Type: Full Time

Please check out their MIF # 11850.AF0 for additional information and self-referral details on the Church Leadership Connection.

Grand Lakes Presbyterian Church is a welcoming congregation that transforms and connects lives in Christ, and shares in the joy of celebrating the grace and glory of God through meaningful worship, study, service, outreach, and caring relationships of our members and community.

As we act out our faith and walk in Christ’s footsteps, we are called to be a blessing to others.  We fulfill our mission, in part, through service and caring relationships in our community and congregation.  We seek help from the Holy Spirit in identifying and addressing needs.  We transform and connect lives to provide a nurturing environment of care and growth in our communities, internal and external.  We maintain an active Deacon ministry.

We are an inter-generational community of faith in the Triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Our vision for ministry is “Transforming and Connecting Lives in Christ”.  Above the exit of our church building is painted a bold reminder to carry our faith and ministry “beyond these doors”.

We live out our vision as a continual focus; seeking opportunities for transforming lives in Christ through open doors, welcoming all who enter.  We nurture and care for all our members - families as well as individuals - with ministry for all ages focusing on the Word and sharing in the joy of celebrating God’s grace and glory through worship, Bible study, community outreach, and fellowship.

We also use picnics, movie and game nights, fun runs, and other fellowship opportunities as important supplements to our study of God’s Holy Word, contributing to our overall vision of ministry.  Visiting and caring for one another in times of joy and times of crisis are part of our ongoing transformation in Christ.

Our vision of ministry extends to our broader community through partnerships and outreach, sharing our facility with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Alcoholics Anonymous, and hosting a Korean NWC.  We also look for opportunities to live out our vision by helping others suffering from natural disasters such as hurricane Harvey, partnering with Katy Christian Ministries, and mission trips for adults and youth.

The Pastor will serve as an active, servant leader and participant in all facets of full-time, ordained ministry.  The Pastor sets the tone for staff and volunteers and provides pastoral care of the congregation.  She or he will guide the staff, volunteers and congregation with joy and love into deeper relationships with Jesus Christ.   The Pastor oversees administrative matters associated with this position.

The Pastor will work with the Associate Pastor, staff and volunteers in a compassionate and caring manner to nurture and care for our members.  The Pastor will celebrate with our congregation the joy, grace and glory of God through leading meaningful worship, study, service and fellowship.  The Pastor will also guide the congregation in engaging the greater community beyond the doors of the Church.

Executive Director / Pastor - Phoenix, OR

Listed 01-19-2021

Employer: First Presbyterian Church & 1st Phoenix Community, PO Box 390, Phoenix, OR 97535 | 541-535-1119 | 1stphoenix.org

Location: Phoenix, OR

Start Date: 04-15-2021

Type: Full Time

We are searching for someone who is eager to be involved in a unique ministry position where the primary responsibility will be outreach to a small-town community. Please check out our MIF # 07134.AD2 for additional information on the Church Leadership Connection. This position is suitable for a 1st or 2nd call.

The congregation itself is small – some 19 members plus another 10+ who participate irregularly.  These numbers do not define the active ministry, however. Pre-COVID, some 1000 folks entered our doors every month; over 100 volunteers make the various programs we support possible. The leadership is comprised of a six-member session and another Board of Directors for the 1st Phoenix Community Center – a non-profit agency birthed by the church and the Phoenix community at large.

For at least the last three years, the church and the community center have worked closely together as one unit. They both have their own 501c3. We are in the process of making this partnership a legal joint venture. The person we seek will oversee the new entity this makes.

What we are looking for is a leader who has serious non-profit background, but also can oversee the pastoral needs of the small congregation. We are looking for an Executive Director/Pastor. It will be a full-time position.

We have the voluntary leadership, we have the expressed needs for both the church and the community, and we have programs meeting basic needs. We also have dreams of what more can be done. And so it is, we seek a leader with the drive to bring these together into an over-all ministry that lifts up our values of Micah 6 – to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God.

We ask that anyone interested in joining us in a unique and exciting ministry contact the chair of the search committee, Mona Brooks, 1stphoenixcc@gmail.com (541)840-5034; or the Reverend Dan Fowler, COM representative for the search committee, Dan Fowler revfowler@yahoo.com  (541)482-3536.  Feel free to contact either one if you have any questions.

Associate Pastor for Youth - Larchmont, NY

Listed 01-13-2021

Employer: Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church, 60 Forest Park Avenue, Larchmont , NY 10538 | 914-834-1800 | www.lacny.org

Location: Larchmont, NY

Start Date: 03-01-2021

Type: Full Time

Please review Larchmont's MIF #06061.AG0 at clc.pcusa.org for additional information and self-referral instructions. A manse is available.

The Larchmont Avenue Church (a 500-member church) is seeking a youth pastor. We are a Presbyterian community church in southern Westchester County, New York, within easy reach of New York City. We're an active, intellectually engaged multi-generational congregation. Our 100 year old church is a dynamic house of worship that embraces our traditions while working towards progressive programs that serve all ages. We are seeking an associate pastor to lead the church’s Christian Education and Youth Ministry programs, including Sunday School and middle school/high school weekly evening fellowship. In addition, the associate pastor will help lead the celebration of worship with joy and enthusiasm as well as assist the senior pastor in pastoral care, including counseling and visitation. The candidate should be open-minded, articulate, confident, skilled in working cooperatively, technologically savvy and inspired by the work of creating a deeply meaningful, visible and creative youth ministry that upholds the spiritual lives of today’s youth.

We are hopeful that the Associate Pastor will play a key role in each of these areas both through their leadership of LAC’s children’s education and youth ministry programs, and just as importantly, as a leader in worship and pastoral care. Young families and youth are a critical facet of any healthy congregation – indeed, our Session has committed to fund this Associate Pastor position for at least three years (funds will come from the endowment if annual revenue is unable to support it). Our youth inspire us in worship and in community service and enrich our fellowship opportunities. Young families provide energy and vitality to a faith family and to our worship experience. Through these efforts, we are hopeful that the Associate Pastor will be instrumental in continuing to invigorate the vitality of this community of faith we so desire.

The Associate Pastor should be a person whose Christian conviction, faith and vocation for ministry are warmly evident and purposeful.  They should be someone with compassion, patience and the ability to inspire the Christian witness of families, children and youth in a community which may struggle to make church a priority or find time for spirituality.  The Associate Pastor will be encouraged to develop their ministry in innovative ways.  They should have the ability to generate enthusiasm among members, and in particular the youth, to be involved in children's and youth ministry.

Youth ministry is foundational to our church and our purpose as Christians. We want to fully integrate all ages, especially youth, into the life of our church. All ages have much to learn from each other through worshiping, learning, and serving together.

We seek to deepen our connections to one another and our community. We want to be welcoming to all, a haven in times of need, and a safe place to share our humanity in times of both celebration and loss.Worship and learning are foundations of our connection with the Spirit and one another. We want to be inspired and challenged. We seek dynamic study for all ages to help us understand God’s word and today’s issues. We have a reverence for tradition while we invite innovation, especially to engage across generations and the diverse community we desire.

We seek deep connections through mission and discipleship with our community and the wider world. Through service, we strengthen our faith and the bonds within our faith.

Our calling as Disciples of Christ is centered around service to others, and we value our work with our mission partners, including the Community Resource Center and the STEM Alliance. LAC supports local food pantries (HOPE and Larchmont/Mamaroneck Hunger Task Force), Heifer International, and several other community organizations. The Midnight Run began in 1992, in cooperation with Larchmont Temple, bringing meals and clothing to the homeless in New York City. Youth groups regularly volunteer with these efforts and also at the nearby Coachman Family Center for the homeless.  With the creation of our Eco Task Force, we are positioned to become a leader within the community on sustainability efforts. Many community organizations use our LAC facilities to host their meetings/events including AA and Al-Anon, Larchmont Symphonia, and Westchester Children’s Choir.

We aim to continue our legacy of mission and discipleship and to become a more welcoming spiritual home. There are emergent needs of young families, the elderly and youth within the congregation, the immediate area of Mamaroneck/Larchmont and communities further afield. The Associate Pastor will build upon existing opportunities to support the spiritual growth of our youth through meaningful learning opportunities and increasingly involve them in community mission work.  This will promote intergenerational connections within and outside the congregation.
